General questions
The app is free to download, and creating your own flashcard collections remains free. The new Explore marketplace offers a variety of content, including free collections and paid Short Courses ranging from $1 to $9, available as one-time purchases. Upgrade to access paid options for generating custom flashcards and interactive quizzes.
No, creating an account is entirely optional. You can use our language learning app without the need for an account, all your learning data will be securely stored locally on your device. However, for added convenience, we provide the option to create an account. By doing so, you can benefit from features like data backup and synchronization across multiple devices. This way, your progress is not only secure but also accessible wherever and whenever you choose to learn. You will also gain access to additional premium features.
Click the plus icon in the bottom right corner of the main screen. Name your collection. Select “Import” from the data import menu to create an empty list. To add cards manually, open the list and click the new card icon in the bottom right corner.

- Select “Google Sheets” from the data import menu.
- Create a list in Google Sheets with two columns (for example, “FRONT” and “BACK”). Each row will correspond to the two sides of a card.
- Share the file: go to File > Share > Publish to web.
- Select the correct sheet (for example, “Sheet1”) and choose the comma-separated values (.csv) format.
- Click “Publish”.
- Copy the URL and paste it into the “Google Sheets URL” field.
Click the plus icon in the bottom right corner of the main screen. Name your collection. Select a CSV file stored locally or in the cloud from the data import menu. Create a list in Google Sheets, Excel, or similar software and save it as a .csv file. Upload the .csv file to the app.

Next, you can decide whether you want the AI model to translate the study material into a foreign language. Find the “Create from” section and choose the source for your notes (text, image, YouTube video, or your own topic). Paste the text or select a file, then click “Confirm.”
The app language follows your phone's language settings. We currently support English and Polish.
The app offers a paid feature for generating premium flashcards and quizzes.

The app initially shows only some of the cards. Once you memorize them, the remaining cards will appear. This prevents overwhelm and makes learning more effective.
We naturally forget new things over time. Returning to the list helps strengthen your memory and keep your progress at 100%.
Swipe right if you know the answer. Swipe left if you do not. Tap the card to see its other side. Alternatively, use the buttons at the bottom of the screen.
A study session is the time spent in study mode, counted from the moment you open a list until you return to the main screen.
You can ask AI models to generate lists in a column format for export to Google Sheets. For example: “Create a Spanish vocabulary list about the history of Madrid with English translations”. You can also ask for a .csv file ready to import into the app.
Explore
You can use the Explore tab in the bottom navigation. There you’ll find public flashcard collections and Short Courses organized by categories (like Language, Business, or Science) and creators.
Short Courses are structured learning experiences created by experts. They consist of 3–6 lessons (approx. 1 hour of content) and combine text, images, and short-form videos to give you a comprehensive understanding of a specific topic.
No, we offer both free and paid courses. Paid courses are available as one-time purchases via the App Store or Play Store. Once purchased, they are tied to your byHeart account and available on all your devices.
Yes! Once you purchase or "get" a free course, all its content is downloaded to your device, allowing you to continue your education even without an internet connection.
Quizzes
On your collection card, you will see a "Quiz" button next to the "Study" button. Simply tap it to start testing your knowledge.
The app automatically takes your existing flashcards and creates multiple-choice questions. Each question features one correct answer and three distractors from the same collection.
To generate a valid quiz with four multiple-choice options, your collection must contain at least 4 flashcards.
Yes, after finishing a quiz, you will see a summary screen with your score (number of correct answers and percentage) and the total time spent on the session.
Notes
Yes, you can use the Notes feature. Each collection now has a dedicated "Notes" tab where you can store long-form text, additional explanations, or context related to your cards.
Look for the note icon next to the collection name on the home screen or in the browse view. If the icon is visible, it means there is at least one note attached to that collection.
You can add a note by clicking the "Add Note" button in the Notes tab or through the collection's burger menu. To edit or delete, simply tap the three-dot menu next to any existing note.
Account & Progress
No, as long as you are signed in to your byHeart account. Your progress (last-seen lesson) and your library of purchased courses are synchronized with our servers automatically.
Whenever you exit a learning session or a course, we show you a summary of your effort, including how many lessons and blocks you’ve completed and how much time you’ve dedicated to learning in that session.
You have multiple ways to learn: you can use the classic Study mode for flashcards, take a Quiz to test your knowledge with multiple-choice questions, or dive into Learning Mode for Short Courses. Each course is broken down into 3–6 lessons designed to be completed in about an hour.
